Does anyone else hate reading hyped up books? I watch a lot of booktube. I may not subscribe to everyone because it becomes really repetitive especially with those book hauls. Granted those are my favorite videos (Everyone’s actually). I just noticed that a LOT of them talk about the same books and they become extremely hyped up!
For me I don’t mind reading hyped up books completely, I just prefer waiting until AFTER everyone is done hyping the books up. Once that idea that this book is the shit and everyone should buy it, is gone. Then I will proceed to read it. Usually blind. I like reading hyped books blind so I don’t feel biased.
Also 9 times out of 10 people hype up the books before they even read them and then you hardly hear about if the person read the book at all or even enjoyed it.
Just some pet peeves in reading that I realized I don’t like.
Do any of you smoke while reading? Can you concentrate on reading while high? Does being high change a book experience for you? This is something I’ve been playing with for the past month or so and I might continue on this year to see the results I get.
Soooo 10 days into July and STILL didn’t do a June Wrap Up! 🙃SMH June was just a busy month for me. I was applying for school while also working full time along with my cousin passing…it was a hard month for me all around. Yet I persevered! lmao💪🏾
I started the month with Wonder ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐, the book and then the movie right after. Yes, I’m late but it was SOOO good! I thought it would be sad but it was more of a “feel-good” story more than anything!
I read a few of graphic novels too. Scorch Trials Graphic Book ⭐⭐⭐⭐, Anya’s Ghost⭐⭐⭐⭐, Snotgirl Vol 1 ⭐⭐⭐⭐& 2 ⭐⭐⭐and I Didn’t Really Think This Through by Beth Evans⭐⭐⭐⭐.
I DNF’d The Last Policeman ⭐⭐ by Ben H. Winters about maybe 100 pages in or so. I didn’t really like the direction the story was taking. It felt like it was a slow start and I mostly wasn’t into a slow building story. Plus I also felt like NOTHING was happening😒. I think that’s just the mood I was in, Hence why I read a lot of graphics because I wanted a fast and quick read. Because I really wanted to focus on…
Children of Blood & Bone by Tomi Adeyemi⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐! I am soooo in love with this book! I already want to reread it! I’ve already reread my favorite scene. (The scene where Zellie needs someone to talk to & she goes to Amari’s room and Amari just does her hair and they have girl talk and it’s just a beautiful moment 😍😍😍 that I never thought I would read in a fantasy book, with african people in it! It was just beautiful moment for me.❤
I also listened to The Wicked Will Rise⭐⭐⭐ on audio book and read My Sister Rosa⭐⭐⭐⭐ through the Libby app.
I did end up going to the movie theaters to see Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐and I actually enjoyed it..for someone who doesn’t care for dinosaur movies. I started Riverdale season 2 episodes 1-10⭐⭐⭐⭐ and I swear to god there are too many episodes! I thought I was done at like10 episodes like most t.v. shows but there are 22 episodes?! I have a t.v. commitment issue. I don’t like committing to a lot of t.v shows. Also I watched Marlon ⭐⭐⭐⭐on netflix out of a high boredom 🍃 and Thor: Ragnorok⭐⭐..ew.
And that’s my wrap-up! Hope you enjoyed reading my little wrap up, one day I hope to do a video version of these!
I’m in this weird stage where I start a book I think I’ll like but then as I’m reading it I find that I’m not that interested in it. It’s worse because I’m reading books I KNOW I’ll like and I struggle with actually reading them.
I’ve done this with Glass Sword and I DNF’d it and now I’m thinking about DNF’ing Truthwitch. Well since I own Truthwitch I’ll pick it up another time but I can’t get into it. I might be in a reading slump? Who knows??? I want to read but stories aren’t moving fast enough for me either that or I have no patience.
So far everyone has told me not to waste my time reading this book…….so why am I enjoying it and I’m about 200 pages in out of 800-something? I’m reading it on my phone through Google Books (life saver cause they give you free money for books!)
Hopefully I continue to enjoy it! What are you reading as we start out the month?
Small update, still depressed. Still not into reading. I want to but no car or extra money so cant find any decent books to read. I’m trying to push through in what I’m reading right now but again I can’t sit still long enough to read it.
I opened this one because I wanted to read diverse books/books with African American characters or written by African American people for the month of February. (Yes I’m early but I still want to start now) Since I finished SBF Seeking by Latoya Hawkins (written by a poc/main character poc/with bisexual topics) so fast I’m going to read this one since it’s suppose to be fantasy or magical or something of the sort then I’m going right into my two urban books that have been on my shelf for such a long time! What are people reading to finish up the month?
This is what my goodreads currently reading shelf looks like! Well I did finish “If the World Were Mine” I just gotta review 😒 The rest are mostly because I’m a little book impulsive. 😅
•Reblog with your currently reading pics if you do the same.•
Tower of Dawn by you know who. Idk how I feel about it. I’m 200 pages in and I’m just now getting into the story line. So needless to say I don’t really fuck with it like I did her other books.
